The focus of our grass-roots effort is to protect our WATER. Please donate today - to help the community do this important work. Polluting & poisoning the Delaware River Basin is not a good idea - as there are 17 million people in towns and cities downriver - who need to drink this same water.
We have retained a leading environmental attorney, Richard Lippes, Esq.
He was lead counsel for our community in the NYS-Public Service Commission mediation which resulted in the removal of the Upper Delaware River corridor from the NYRI power line proposal. He was also the lawyer who won the LOVE CANAL case.
If the Chesapeak Energy (Halliburton) proposal goes through - there will be a gas well every 25 acres across our township - and up to the Finger Lakes Region. Every well requires about 5 acres of clearing and 3 to 5 million gallons of water - and every well is connected via horizontal piping. The water (a sludge, containing diesel fuel, and other toxic chemicals) comes back up even more polluted (including radon) and is “composted” into the top soil. They will be digging up 15% (or more) of the township - about 2000 gas wells in Damascus, PA alone, and Sullivan County, NY is next.
